The Constitution and how the government twists it

I wrote an article back in 2012 when the rise of secession was running rampant that I revisited as current events have begun to cause me to wonder what direction this country is headed towards.

I stated in my article that,

In the end change in this country is way beyond overdue. Secession is not the answer. Instead of running away, the people of the nation need to become more involved at a personal level and be the architects of charge. Americans need to educate themselves in not only domestic issues put foreign policy and be part of the change that allows the country to once again cause the world to understand why Americans are a different breed of people who became a world power in such a short time by our fortitude.

As I stated, I do not think secession is the answer. I do not believe that "civil war" is the answer. I would also go as far as saying a "revolution" in the sense of what our Founding Fathers did is not the answer either. I would, however, say that a "revolution of the people" to fix what is broken, as opposed to replacing it altogether, is indeed the right mindset of that word revolution. Jumping overboard from a damaged ship would only cause the jumpers to drown and the ship to sink. We cannot just abandon what those American Patriots fought and died for over the course of our history.

What the citizens of this country need to understand is our Founding Fathers gave US power over our government but our government is convinced that they have the power over us. Between the President, Congress and the Supreme Court, we are being controlled instead of being governed. There is a big difference. We have the Bill of Rights, which every citizen needs to become acquainted with. However, the government is consistently twisting the words to suit their needs and not taking them as they stand.

The first two Amendments are clear examples. Amendment I states that,

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Note that the government has no power to stop free speech, for people to peacefully assemble and to call out the government when the people find a grievance. However, the government is constantly stifling free speech. Regardless of whether or not it is beneficial it is a Constitutional right. Don't like what you hear? Ignore it. It is that simple. Here is an example. I think there is way too much nonsense, bad language, unnecessary commentary on TV. However, I have the ability and the right to turn it off and control who in my family can listen to it. I may not like it but I can control what I hear. If there is a rally on an issue I don't agree with, guess what? I don't go to it. We have to control our actions, not have someone else (government) control them for us.

It's called being informed and prudent.

Various militia groups are being lumped with hate groups and unfairly so. This is still protected by the Constitution. I do not like what Neo-Nazi's, the KKK and other groups that preach hate are about, but they do have the same, inalienable rights as the rest of us. Again, informed and prudence covers this. Let them spout their hate, and ignore it. When we push back it just makes them push back harder and the cycle never ends. They have their rights to say what they want, great, ignore it and they are speaking to no one. They have every right under the Constitution to assemble peacefully. Let them. Key word is peacefully. If they become violent the government is in the right to take action.

However, those militias that are peacefully organizing are being spotlighted as terrorist groups unjustly. And just like the last part of Amendment I, they are vilified for petitioning the government and calling it out.

That leads me to Amendment II which states that,

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The militia has been defined in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution. I believe the Militia, as stated is, organized and maintained by the government. This is the "organized" militia - the National Guard. The "unorganized" militia is not present in the Constitution that I can find. However, these groups clearly fall under Amendment I's freedom of speech and to peacefully assemble as well as Amendment II's right to bear arms. This is where militias get the bad rap. Because they are assembling (not taking action) AND bearing arms, they are considered taking action against the government, which is false. They are upholding their Constitutional rights. They are being prepared for a time when the government decides to totally rewrite the Constitution. They will protect it.

But like Hitler in Nazi Germany, the government wants an uninformed and unarmed people to subjugate. The American people however, at least those with an understanding of the Constitution and a patriotic love for this country, clearly see the errant ways of the government and are calling them out, as given to them in the Constitution (remember redress of grievances?).

Finally, look at Amendment X,

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

See that? If it isn't in the Constitution, "We The People" are the power. It's time to stop allowing the defining document of our nation to be twisted and used as a tool against those it was created to protect and defend. It's time for American citizens to understand that the Constitution wasn't designed to give the Federal Government power, it was designed to give the people the power.
